Like many residents, Patrick Doland first got to know the Northbrook Civic Foundation through the fun and games of its Northbrook Days. He moved to Northbrook in 1982 and enjoyed taking his three children to the carnival. Then Doland found out proceeds from Northbrook Days funds grants to local organizations. He joined the Northbrook Civic Foundation in 1999. “I’d seen all the good they’ve done around town and thought I owed it to the community to pay back for all the good they’ve done around town and thought I owed it to the community to pay back for all the good they’ve done.” Doland has served on the foundation’s general projects committee, which approves grants under $5,000. A financial planner, Doland was the foundation’s treasurer last year, before being tapped for president. Doland was elected to the year-long term Monday night, replacing outgoing President Michael Morgan. He hopes to make Northbrook Days even more successful and ensure that proceeds “are used where they’re needed the most.” He also hopes to boost the foundation’s membership, which now stands at 156. Doland also is a member of the Northbrook Rotary Club, which he joined in 1999.
In the bank
Doland got interested in banking as a teen when a new bank was built in his Iowa hometown. He got a part-time job painting the bank and soon was filling in for a janitor. Working as a teller during college, he took a full-time banking job after graduation. He worked at Oak Brook Bank for nine years, ending in 1998. Last year, he founded Northbrook’s Reason Financial Advisors, Inc., a fee-only financial planning and investment advisory firm. Doland and his wife, Kathy, have two grown children and a college student. A self-described “movie buff,” his favorite movie is “Casablanca.”
