Patrick L. Doland, a former principal with Successful Financial Solutions, Inc. in Northbrook since 1998, has formed a new fee-only financial planning firm. Doland stated “My two former partners decided to sell our practice to a larger firm outside of Northbrook. As a twenty year resident of the community, I saw little reason to make the move with them, so I started Reason Financial Advisors.”
Prior to joining Successful Financial Solutions, Doland had over twenty years experience in banking which included serving as senior vice president of a large suburban Chicago bank. Doland said of the new firm “We intend to provide financial planning and investment management services on a fee-for-service basis, rather than receiving any commission from the sale of investment or insurance products. Our clients will pay us for the service we provide, not for the products we sell.”
Doland is a member of the National Association for Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA) and serves on the board of the North Shore Council of the Financial Planning Association of Illinois (FPA). He is also a member of the Greater North Shore Estate and Financial Planning Council and served as president of the North Shore Chapter of the International Association for Financial Planning (IAFP).
Doland received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Upper Iowa University and an MBA from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University. He is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER ™ Practitioner and a NAPFA-Registered Financial Advisor. NAPFA, founded in 1983, is the largest professional organization representing comprehensive fee only financial advisors. NAFPA members are prohibited from receiving compensation other than client fees and are, therefore, not compensated by the sale of products they recommend.
Civic involvement has also been an important part of his life. He is active in Rotary and is a former club president. He is the treasurer of the Northbrook Civic Foundation and has also served on various boards including a downstate bank, the Graduate School of Banking in Madison, Wisconsin, the United Way of Suburban Chicago and the United Way Crusade of Mercy serving the metropolitan Chicago area.
For four years Doland produced and hosted the Comcast cable access show Financial Solutions that aired in 225,000 households in the northern Chicago suburbs. He has been a speaker at national and regional conferences and has written articles for such publications as Crain’s Chicago Business and Midwestern Financial Planner. He has also served as an informational source and been quoted in publications including the Chicago Tribune, Journal of Financial Planning, and Dow Jones Investment Advisor.
