Area Planner Presents at NAPFA Conference

Patrick Doland, principal of Northbrook based Reason Financial Advisors, Inc., recently addressed the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors Midwest Region Conference. The conference was held September 11-13 at the Renaissance North Shore Hotel in Northbrook, and the theme was Opportunities in Confusing Times.

Doland was one of four mid-west planners chosen to present during the four hour session that was designed to help other planners with various practice management issues. His presentation addressed operational and marketing issues as they relate to expanding a practice.

Another area firm that was represented at the conference was MAGA, Ltd from Deerfield. Brian Gordon, vice president and Peter Florek, sales manager presented an overview of long term care insurance and how it differs from traditional health insurance. Gordon has more than a decade of experience in long term care insurance, joining MAGA in 1990. Florek joined MAGA in 1996 and has been advising individuals, families and businesses regarding coverage. He also acts as a consultant to financial and insurance professionals nationwide.

Other topics that were addressed during the conference included sessions on alternative investments, casualty insurance, investments, estate planning, and employee stock options.

NAPFA, founded in 1983, is the largest professional organization representing comprehensive fee only financial advisors. NAFPA members are prohibited from receiving compensation other than client fees and are, therefore, not compensated by the sale of products they recommend.

Doland, a Northbrook resident, received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Upper Iowa University and an MBA from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University.  He is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER ™ Practitioner and a NAPFA Registered Financial Advisor. Doland provides fee only services in areas including investment management, retirement planning, estate planning, risk management, income tax planning and education planning.
